The Fire Place – What an Interesting play on words for a hearth store. It is truly “a place for all things fire”!
In 2001, store owner Phillip Schroeder was diagnosed with a brain tumor and was forced to take a year off while recovering from lengthy bouts of surgeries and radiations. He had to release lucrative contracts as owner of an auto detailing company with employees stationed in several Coachella Valley 5 star resorts during this time. Phillip had always been an entrepreneur and loved to find something he enjoyed and made it better. In 2002 the owner of “Palm Desert Fireplace” (the one on El Paseo, not the one that goes by that name now) Dave Meddock, brought Phillip in as an installer. After seeing the major innovations Phillip brought to the table in sales, service, merchandising, and managerial skills, Dave made Phillip store manager within 6 months. In 2009 the “Palm Desert Fireplace” owner retired and in 2010 The Fire Place was born. With a deep love of the hearth industry, Phillip wanted to have one of the best showrooms in California. In 2016 The Fire Place moved from their 2,700 sq. ft. El Paseo location to a now almost 7,000 sq. ft. location on Hwy 111 at Monterey.
Expanding on their line own of Tuscany Inspired fireplace doors, screens, tool sets, andirons and fire sculptures that Phillip has copywrited and patented. “We not only make our own designs, but we also can make a customer’s design come to fruition” says Phillip. The Fire Place is also extremely competitive and aggressive in their pricing, making fireplace doors for half that of local fireplace door companies yet retaining quality. There are a couple companies that come from out of town but our doors are better and less expensive. We have our own staff that goes to the home for inspection.
Coming from a long history of managing interior design firms, Phillip understands the dreams customers have for their homes and works closely with local interior designers to assure their clients are “wowed”. Offering fireplace accessories from Ultra Contemporary to very Tuscany or Spanish influences The Fire Place can always impress. “The new store gets many compliments but is still a work in progress,” says Schroeder, “we have made some great strides but we still have another year to go before we have our dream showroom.” They have also introduced barbecues and many unique firepits and outdoor fire features.
Schroeder is grateful for all our Coachella Valley locals that buy local as opposed to buying online. “Most people don’t realize how much damage is done to local businesses and our neighbors by purchasing online. We seem to have a loyal following, people are aware if there is a problem with an item those online sources will not help you” The Fire Place is optimistic that 2019 will be a banner year and looks forward to serving the Valley. Come and visit us at our new location!
